The Maverick Hybrid, Mustang Mach-E and E-Transit are the three electrified models Ford promises to launch next year in Brazil and other countries in the region. This portfolio diversification aims to achieve the company’s environmental goals defined for the South American region, which had positive results over the last four trimesters.
“The world is going through a profound transformation toward electrification and connectivity”, said Daniel Justo, president of Ford South America. “We restructured to achievet this focus and adequate financial results. These three products will accelerate electrification in Brazil and South America”.
Among the ongoing decarbonization programs in the region, the Development and Technology Center in Tatuí, SP, already uses 100% renewable electric energy since last year and the Argentinean plant in Pacheco, which produces the Ranger, is on the way to using 100% solar energy in the next two years.
The first of the three electrified products to arrive in Brazil – at the beginning of 2023 – will be the Maverick Hybrid, the first pick-up of this kind to be commercialized in Brazil. The SUV Mach-E, an electric version of the iconic Mustang, will follow.
Regarding the E-Transit van, Ford’s first step will be showing its benefits for fleet owners. “Besides a lower maintenance cost, goof range and fast charge system, the model increases customers productivity through connectivity and other innovative resources”, emphasized the company in a note released on Sunday, 9/25.
According to Justo, the launches scheduled for next year are aligned with the brand’s strategy to have electric models in the three business segments on which the company currently bases its operation in the region: pick-ups, SUVs and commercial vehicles.
Globally, Ford will invest US$ 50 billion over the next four years in electric vehicles and batteries to achieve an annual production of 600 thousand vehicles up to the end of 2023 and 2 million up to the end of 2026.
