General Motors has just created a new business unit, GM Energy, aiming to provide intelligent energy management to domestic and commercial customers and electric car owners. According to a company note released this Tuesday, 10/11, it is an ecosystem consisting of Ultium Home, Ultium Commercial and Ultium Charge 360, offering a wide energy management services portfolio.
The unit provides diverse solutions, such as bidirectional charge with vehicle-to-home (V2H) and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) applications, stationary storage, solar products, software applications, cloud management tools, microgrid solutions, hydrogen fuel cells and more.
“GM Energy has the opportunity to help deliver sustainable energy products and services that can help mitigate the effect of power outages and provide customers with resilient and cost-effective energy management”, said Travis Hester, vice president of GM EV Growth Operations.
The executive also told that the new business unit services would enable the sale of EVs and stationary storage to the electric grid in high-consumption time, generating more potential value for the customers and adding capacity to the network.
Various companies in the United States have already agreed to work jointly with GM Energy. One example is an agreement with SunPower, one of the USA’s leading solar technology and energy services providers, aiming to develop a home energy system consisting of integrated EV and battery solutions, solar panels and home energy storage.
GM Energy’s central solution interface will be the GM Energy Services Cloud, which will store data and management tools, uninterruptedly connecting customers with home, fleet and commercial energy assets.
“The massive scale of GM Energy’s solutions will allow us to address better current challenges with grid infrastructure, energy storage and energy management,” said Mark Bole, vice president and director of GM V2X Battery Solutions.
“Taking advantage of GM’s flexible technology platforms and the power of Ultium, we’re able to provide resilient and accessible energy solutions for all customers and the grid, helping to advance toward the 100% electric future.”
