It took a time, but Rolls-Royce finally started its electrified automobile era. The centenarian British luxury brand revealed this Tuesday, 10/18, the Spectre, its first all-electric model. The first units of the Phantom Coupé successor will be delivered to customers in the last quarter of 2023.
The new model is Rolls-Royce’s first step in a trajectory aiming to electrify all its product portfolio up to 2030. “This is the beginning of a new chapter for our brand, our extraordinary customers and the luxury industry. Therefore, I believe the Spectre is the most perfect product Rolls-Royce ever made”, said Torsten Müller-Ötvös, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars CEO.
Nonetheless, the intention to have electric-powered cars is not recent at Rolls-Royce. In 1900, Charles Stewart Rolls, brand co-founder, already asserted: “The electric car is perfectly silent and clean. There is no smell or vibration. They should become very utile when fixed charge stations become organized”.
More than 120 years later came the Spectre, a coupé considered the brand’s most aerodynamic model ever produced. Conceived on a new aluminum structure architecture, the manufacturer says it is 30% more rigid than any other Rolls-Royce.
The batteries located under the floor weigh close to 700 kg and provide energy for the 577 cv and 900 Nm motor. The estimated range is 416 km, and it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds. The brand alerts that these numbers may be even better as the development tests will continue over the next months.
The Spectre has no less than 23-inch wheels. As in all Rolls-Royces, the suspension is adaptative. Obviously, the luxury upholstery and finishing are other highlights. Inside, it will be offered the Starlight Doors, with 5,876 softly lighted stars on the roof.
Positioned between the Cullinan and the Phantom, the Spectre will cost from US$ 413,500 in Europe, about R$ 2.1 million. Like all Rolls-Royce products, a luxury for very few.
