Data issued by Acea, the European vehicle manufacturers association, show a 7.9% growth in automobile sales in September over the same month last year, with 1.04 million units, compared to 972.8 thousand. The volume includes sales in countries of the European Union, the Efta block and the United Kingdom.
According to the organization, it was the second consecutive month of growth, but it was largely boosted by the low basis of comparison, data from September 2021, when the vehicle industry began to be affected by the semiconductors shortage.
With the September deliveries, the European market bought in the first nine months of the year 8.27 million automobiles, a volume 9.7% under the same period last year, 9.16 million units.
The Volkswagen Group completed nine months leading sales in the region, with 2.03 million vehicles sold. Despite a 14.7% fall, the volume means a 24.3% market share.
Stellantis was the second-placed, with 1.55 million units delivered, 16.3% less than the results from January through September in 2021. The volume corresponds to an 18.9% market share.
The only manufacturer registering growth in Europe was the Hyundai Group, with 6.6%. The Korean manufacturer sold 821.5 thousand automobiles over the three quarters and attained a 9.9% share.
