The fleet of cars offered for subscription by rental companies in Brazil grew 16.4% this year, reaching 106 thousand units at the end of September, compared to 91 thousand last year.
The data were released by Abla, the Brazilian association of automobile rental companies. The numbers consider only its associates’ vehicles and do not include the cars belonging to the manufacturers, which also offer this service.
According to the association, subscription cars were the rental modality that grew the most during the pandemic. Abla’s president, Marco Aurélio Nazaré, believes this participation will double in the medium term because, although recent, “this is a service that came to stay”, especially due to the change of behavior regarding transportation and mobility caused by Covid-19.
“It is a relatively new niche in car rental, but that has been calling the attention of those who value more the use than the property”, complements Paulo Miguel Júnior, the association’s managing councilor. “The pandemic took more people, whenever possible, to avoid agglomeration in collective transportation”, he explains.
