Volkswagen Caminhões e Ônibus is expanding its electric truck portfolio, offering a 17.3-ton model, which begins to be tested in the streets of São Paulo in the next weeks. Able to haul 2.8 tons more than the e-Delivery 14 (14.5-ton), it will be the largest electric vehicle of this kind made in Brazil.
“Our team conceived a flexible architecture, which speeds the creation of new models, easing the adaptation and following a new concept for electric vehicles”, said Roberto Cortes, VWCO’s president and CEO, in an end-of-the-year event with the specialized media this Thursday, 12/1.
According to the executive, the company developed a world’s unique and exclusive production process, “which allowed us to develop three electric truck models in record time”.
Despite the larger cargo capacity, the e-Delivery 17 keeps the dimensions enabling it to operate as an urban cargo vehicle (VUC) in restricted zones. The model has a larger-capacity front axle, strengthened chassis and suspension, 6×2 drive and a lower cargo platform easing the operation, full air suspension and double wheels in both rear axles.
“Our greatest differentials in electromobility are the rigor under which our products are tested and developed, the services we aggregate to make operations easier, a trained dealer network for post-sales and parts available in all markets we act”, told Cortes.
The 17-ton model’s battery configuration is also new: four packs or six packs, reaching a range of up to 180 km. The prototype to be tested in São Paulo streets aims for high-density cargo operations in compact urban vehicles and beverage deliveries with up to eight pallets.
