The internal market of light electrified vehicles had 4,995 units sold in November, the second-best monthly result after September (6.4 thousand), according to data from ABVE, the Brazilian Electric Vehicle Association.

Sales in the first eleven months went over 43.6 thousand registers, 43% more than in the same period last year. If it keeps the same pace in December, the electrified market shall get close to 50 thousand units in 2022, an absolute record and about 40% more than in 2021, when 35 thousand units reached the streets.

About half of the negotiated electrified vehicles were sold in the Southeast region, especially in São Paulo. The numbers of the segment include only HEV automobiles and light commercial vehicles, light hybrids, PHEVs, plug-in hybrids and BEVs, battery electric vehicles. It does not include electric trucks and buses, motorcycles or similar.

ABVE emphasizes the growth of external recharge vehicles, PHEVs and BEVs. From January through November, they reached a share of 1% of light vehicles’ internal sales: 18.7 thousand units from more than 1.75 million registers. Considering the HEV, the share goes to 2.5%, compared to 1.8% last year.

“November sales confirm the growing trend of the light electrified vehicle market in Brazil, which has been growing consistently for more than three years”, said ABVE’s president, Adalberto Maluf, who foresees a space for more significative results. “We are far behind the main markets in electrification.”

According to Maluf, the sales of plug-in electrics – BEV and PHEV – jumped from 8.6% to almost 15% in the world vehicle market in 2022. “China and Germany already overcame 30%, and Europe shall overcome 21% on average”, says the executive, who wishes Brazil could have a national electric mobility plan.
