Supergasbras, in partnership with Volkswagen Caminhões e Ônibus (VWCO), the EGSA Group, Juntu Rental and Supergasbras, is beginning to distribute bulk Liquefied Petroleum Gas using the e-Delivery electric truck.

Júlio Cardoso, Supergasbras’ president, says it strengthens the company’s energy transition strategy: “We are always looking for new solutions and technologies that may benefit society, the environment and our company. Therefore, it was very satisfying to firm this partnership and present the market a new sustainable GLP transport concept.

The vehicle has an up to 250 km range and should begin operating in Rio de Janeiro, based on Supergasbras’ largest bottling park, in Duque de Caxias.  “Expanding the electric fleet is part of the company’s plans, but, as this is a pilot project, we will test this vehicle before continuing with others and expanding the routes”, said Cardoso.

According to the companies involved in the project, this will be the first electric truck worldwide to transport bulk liquefied gas. It has a 9 m³ capacity and an electric GLP transference pump.

“It is a challenging and innovative proposal, from the pressure vessel, equipment, and imported implements to deliver the product to the customer”, says the note released by Supergasbras this Monday, 1/23.

Juntu Rental’s president, Adolfo Luis Vicentim, says the company is diversifying its operation to assist the customers better: “Looking for new technological and sustainable solutions, we present to the market the rental of the first 100% electric bulk GLP truck, contributing to the reduction of CO2 emissions and introducing new energy matrixes in the country’s logistic modal”.

Built at EGSA’s plant in Paulínia, SP, the vessel meets the ASME and RTQ6C regulations for road transportation. The VW e-Delivery used in the project has a 14-ton total gross weight.

“This operation shows all the Brazilian engineering’s innovation capacity, with our professionals working in partnership with the customers to provide new transport solutions increasingly efficient. This customized assistance is part of our DNA and, with the e-Delivery, we have specialized even more in this kind of full customer assistance”, said Roberto Cortes, president and CEO of VW Caminhões e Ônibus.
