Commercial vehicle sales in the European Union closed last year with a 14.6% fall to 1,6 million units (1,88 million in 2021).
According to a report from Acea, the region manufacturers’ association, the negative performance happened due to the persistent components shortage during the year that caused a vehicle offer crisis.
Therefore, the volume negotiated in the region was even lower than in 2020, the year of the most acute phase of the Covid-19 pandemic, when the market bought 1,7 million units.
Sales of light commercial vehicles up to 3.5 tons added to 1,27 million units last year, almost 80% of the segment’s total sales. They were 18.1% lower than in 2021 (1,56 million).
In another direction, sales of trucks with more than 3.5 tons in the EU grew 3.5% over 2021, from 289,9 thousand units to 299,7 thousand.
