The light vehicle market reacted in the second half of January with 131 thousand units sold, an almost 12% increase over the 117 thousand deliveries in the same month in 2022. In the first half of the month, the balance had been negative.
Considering the working day sales average, the growth in the first month of 2023 compared to the same month last year was just 6.8%, with 5.96 thousand automobiles, pickups, passenger and cargo vans commercialized according to preliminary data released this Wednesday, 2/1, by a sector’s retail source.
Nonetheless, compared to December, all indexes are negative, which usually happens in the automotive market at the beginning of the year. The fall was 25%, considering last month’s more than 202 thousand vehicles were licensed.
Working day sales fell by 35%, as in December, they were over 9.2 thousand units, versus 6 thousand in January.
Fenabrave shall release this Thursday, 2/2, the official Renavam data, with information also including the heavy vehicles, motorcycles, implements and agricultural machines markets. Data regarding production at the beginning of this year will be released by Anfavea only next Tuesday, 2/7.
Both associations have conservative forecasts for this year. The dealers’ organization foresees stability, and the manufacturers’ representative estimates growth of about 3% for the light vehicle market. The greatest concern is the difficulty of obtaining credit. According to Anfavea, 70% of the segment purchases are currently cash.
