After 2022 with production under demand, the motorcycle industry begins 2023 accelerating the product offer pace for the Brazilian market, according to data released by Abraciclo this Monday, 2/13.

The companies located at the Manaus Industrial Pole manufactured 122,867 units in January, 46.7% more than in the same month last year (83,743 motorcycles) and 44.4% more than in December 2022 (85,117).

According to Abraciclo’s registers, it was the best result for February since 2014, when 146,557 were produced at the Manaus pole.

“This is the first January in the last three years the industry was able to operate normally”, commented Marcos Fermanian, the association’s president. The beginning of 2021 and 2022 were harmed by the pandemic, which restricted the plants’ operation and slowed production. Now, we are succeeding in increasing the production pace to meet the demand that keeps high”.

The two-wheels industry expects to produce 1,550,000 units in 2023, a 9.7% increase compared to the 1,413,222 units sold last year.

‘The motorcycle is a great option for urban transportation. It is agile, has a low maintenance cost and is easy to park. It can also be used as a work tool or to complement income for those who work with deliveries. Considering this scenario, there are clear signs of maintenance of a positive trend along this year’, said Fermanian.

According to Fenabrave’s data released last week, January sales reached 110,561 motorcycles, a 23.3% increase over the same month in 2022 (89,661 units). As normally happens to the automotive sector as a whole, the result was 16.4% lower than December’s (132,204).

With the production increase at the beginning of the year, the sector expects to normalize the offer in the next months. Currently, there still are waiting lines for low-displacement models and scooters. The Street models led the ranking of the best sellers, with 58,423 units licensed last month.

Export sales also grew in January. There were 4,265 shipments, 28.2% more than in the same month last year and 8.6% more than in December (3,926).
