Reuters news agency informed this Tuesday, 3/21 that it got access to a proposal presented at the European Commission to enable the sale of brand new internal combustion engine automobiles environment neutral after 2035, when new CO2-emitting vehicles should be forbidden in the continent.
The proposal should smooth out the dispute with Germany, Europe’s largest economy and one of the world’s largest vehicle producers, about the gradual elimination of internal combustion vehicles and their replacement by electrics.
According to the proposal, a new vehicle category for the European Union would be created using some technology to avoid operation with any non-CO2-neutral fuel.
After months of negotiation, the EU countries and the European Parliament agreed last year about the law forbidding the sale of internal-combustion models after 2035. Nonetheless, Germany’s Transportation Ministry presented objections, demanding the sale of new cars using CO2-neutral fuels.
