Volkswagen celebrated today (3/23) 70 years of operations in Brazil and confirmed for the second half of this year the sale of the ID.4 SUV. At the event, the company’s new CEO in Brazil, Ciro Possobom, talked about the just-presented ID.2all concept, admitting possible studies to produce it in the country.

The German manufacturer concept car is positioned under the ID.3 and should be launched in Europe in 2025 as the brand’s most affordable electric car, with prices beginning at less than 25 thousand euros. Questioned about the possibility of it being produced in Brazil, Possobom said, “the idea is bringing the model for clinics with local consumers”.

The last of the main local manufacturers to launch electric cars in the Brazilian market, Volkswagen now shows a great interest in intensifying its presence in the area. Besides electrics, it also studies the local production of a flex-fuel hybrid that is being developed with Skoda and the VW Group worldwide, including a new platform for small models of this kind.

During the event celebrating 70 years in the country this Thursday, Alexander Seitz, the company’s CEO in Latin America, highlighted the importance of launching the ID.4 for Volkswagen’s sustainable mobility strategy in the region.

“The decision to bring the ID.4 to Brazil was taken based on polls performed over the two last years with the brand’s main business partners, as dealers, suppliers, authorities and especially customers”, said the executive, explaining that the model was better-received than its smaller brother ID.3.

Possobom recalled that the ID.4 is part of the 15 electric and flex-fuel models the company is launching in the region up to 2025. “With it, we connect Brazil to Volkswagen’s global electrification strategy”, he said.

The electric SUV that will arrive in the second semester was shown in Brazil for the first time during the ID. Week, in São Paulo. Afterward, it was presented to dealers in Brazil and neighboring countries, was at the Rock in Rio 2022 (with the ID.Buzz) and was exhibited in business fairs, such as the São Paulo Boat Show.

Despite still incipient, the market for 100% electric vehicles is growing in Brazil. According to Volkswagen, the segment had about four thousand units sold last year, an over 100% growth over 2021.

Assembled on the exclusive MEB platform, the ID.4 has a fast-charge system and can recover up to 80% of the battery capacity in about 40 minutes with a DC charger (150 kW). The batteries are located under the vehicle’s floor, enabling better use of the internal space.
