With one week remaining to the end of March, the manufacturers can already celebrate much better sales than in February.Considering the results until Thursday, 3/23, 122 thousand automobiles and light commercial vehicles were already sold, 23% more than in the same period last year and more than February’s 119.8 thousand registers.
Marcelo Cavalcante de Lima, general manager of Cavalcante & Cavalcante Consultores, estimates March sales should reach from 167 thousand to 173 thousand units, about 25% more than in 2022.
“It is important to note that the first quarter of 2022 was impacted by the semiconductors crisis and had a 24.7% fall compared to 2021”, he said.
Year to date, until March 23, 372.2 thousand light vehicles were delivered, a 9.9% increase in the annual comparison. “If the sales pace is maintained, the first quarter should reach from 417 thousand to 425 thousand units, 12% to 14% more than in 2022, although 14.6% under 2021 and 21% less than the pre-pandemic period”, he estimates.
From March’s first three weeks registers, 63,965 were retail sales, 52.4% of the total. The consultant tells that, in a poll about the main hindrances for business in March, 45% of the participants pointed out as the main factor high vehicle prices, and 34% the interest rates.
March did not yet show many surprises in the brand’s ranking. Fiat, the first bimester and 2022 leader, increased its sales by 16.9% over February. GM was second in the first 23 days of March and already grew 32% year to date, and Volkswagen remained third.
Among the models, the month and year-to-date leader is the Fiat Strada, trailed by the Chevrolet Onix and the compact Fiat Mobi.
