While the automotive sector admits the need to study more affordable entry models to gain sales volume in Brazil, the Renault Kwid – which, like the Fiat Mobi, is one of the only two cars of this kind in the market – entered the March bestselling models ranking.
Renault’s entry car, which was in 12th place in 2022, even sold more last month than the Italian brand’s smallest model. Sales of the two models in March reached 6,696 and 6.386 units, respectively, granting them the seventh and eighth places in the ranking.
Fiat Strada kept in the lead in the month (9,935 units) and the first quarter (96,629 units). The Hyundai HB20 was second in March with 8,363 deliveries, followed closely by the Chevrolet Onix (8,283) and Volkswagen Polo (8,176).
The Kwid isn’t among the ten bestsellers in the trimester, and the Mobi was eighth. Onix and Onix Plus were second and third.
Fiat remained the brands’ leader, with 41.4 thousand deliveries in March and a 22.1% share. General Motors was second with 30 thousand units and 16%, followed by Volkswagen with nearly 23 thousand deliveries and 12.3%.
The German brand had production halts in all its plants in the country during the period for lack of semiconductors. General Motors announced a stoppage in São José dos Campos, SP, caused by the market retraction in the first bimester. Toyota, Hyundai, Jeep, Renault, Honda, Nissan and Citroën completed last month’s Top 10.
