Without consensus inside Anfavea, the affordable green car, which intends to redeem the popular (or entry) car, is being studied by the government, according to Margarete Gandini, director of the Department of Development of High-Medium Technological Complexity Industry of the Development, Industry and Commerce Ministry.
While some manufacturers are clearly against the idea, such as General Motors, the president of Stellantis in South America, Antonio Filosa, reassured the interest in cheaper models that could increase sales in the Brazilian market.
“We are not participating in negotiations with the government. Who is leading the project is Fenabrave. But we will be ready to be part of it in case it is approved”, said the executive.
Filosa defends the need to create conditions in Brazil to leverage the production volume of the local manufacturers and ensure investments consistent with the market potential. About the moment, he says April shows a good performance, but the Tiradentes (4/21) long weekend will hinder a sales improvement:
“I believe we will see growth in May and June. They will be decisive to define the market way, for good or for worst. But I believe it will grow, or at least remain stable, without falls”.
The affordable green car project involves discussions on taxes, size and vehicle finishing. There are also discussions about better financing conditions to purchase these models, including the possible use of part of the worker’s FGTS (Fundo de Garantia do Tempo de Serviço – Severance Guarantee Fund) for the down payment.
