Despite this year’s results still indicating growth regarding 2022, Anfavea keeps firm in saying the internal market isn’t doing well and that exports are beginning to be hit. From 13 plant stoppages in the year, nine impacted April results for some days. Therefore, the production loss compared to what was previewed – 30 thousand units until March – has now increased to 47 thousand.

In April, the industry manufactured 178.9 thousand units of light and heavy vehicles, 19.4% less than in March and 3.9% under last year’s result in the same month. In the first four months, 714.9 thousand vehicles were made, 4.8% more than in the same period in 2022.

The difference is that in the first months of last year the production was seriously affected by the semiconductors crisis: there was a lack of offer, not of demand. At the time, there were waiting lines to purchase vehicles in the dealerships.

Currently, according to Anfavea’s president, the great fleet owners, especially rental companies, are keeping the domestic market moving. Plants’ halts are much more related to the retail market setback than the occasional lack of electronic components.

Due to the production stoppages and working shift suspension, the first four month’s figures are under the projected by Anfavea. Nonetheless, the association keeps projecting a small 1.3% production and 3% internal sales growth.

The manufacturers are debating with the government a project to redeem the so-called popular car, now defined as a green affordable (or entry) vehicle.

From January through April, 633 thousand vehicles were delivered, 14% more than in 2022. The index is still positive, but has fall month-by-month like the production.

April was also marked by an export fall. Thirty-four thousand units were shipped, 24% less than in March and a number also under April 2022.
