General Motors makes a point to affirm that the full-electric future is much closer to its product lineup than many other competitors. Hybrid propulsion should be an unnecessary step, a phase the North-American manufacturer will skip.
In Brazil, an incipient electric vehicle market, this global resolve so far has been reflected in the offer of imported Chevrolet vehicles, such as the Bolt EV and Bolt EUV. This will be strengthened in the next years. GM confirmed this Tuesday, 5/9 that it will import two other electric models, the Blazer EV and the Equinox EV.
Yet in 2024, the arriving models are based on the Ultium, GM’s most modern modular platform, part of a US$ 35 billion global investment package in electrification that began in 2020 and goes through 2025 to launch 30 new electric vehicles.
“We plan to start offering the Blazer EV and Equinox EV mid-next year, right after the launch in the United States”, said Santiago Chamorro, GM South America’s president.
According to GM, the Blazer EV is finalizing the certification and homologation tests with support from the Brazilian engineering structure, which includes the Cruz Alta Proofing Ground and the Technological Center.
The manufacturer promises to present the Blazer and, right after, the electric Equinox, “to be the most affordable model of the brand electrics family”.
He also admits studies on other battery-driven vehicles for the Brazilian and South American markets, defending the adoption of public policies to encourage electromobility and even talks about the possibility of making the region a production and exportation pole for electric vehicle technology and production.
