Volkswagen decided to delay the temporary layoff scheduled for 800 employees at its plant in Taubaté, SP, where the entry model Polo Track is produced.
The information was released by Sindmetau, Taubaté and Region Metalworkers Union, which received a notice from the manufacturer on Wednesday, 5/10. The special regimen should be adopted on June 1. According to the labor association, it will now begin on July 1.
The Sindmetau says the delay is related to the discussions between the government and the automotive sector about a program to create more affordable vehicles.
“The unions and Anfavea have discussed the popular car with the Federal Government. Due to the advance of these discussions,
Volkswagen is delaying the beginning of the layoff to July 1”, said Cláudio Batista, Sindmetau’s president. He understands the new schedule and be adjusted depending on the progress of the negotiation.
Nevertheless, the manufacturer does not confirm the date to begin the layoff and says the delay aims to meet a punctual market demand.
Last week, Volkswagen announced the end of the second work shift at the Taubaté plant, canceling the job contracts temporarily for two to five months.
