General Motors will stop production for ten days at its São José dos Campos, SP plant. According to the São José dos Campos and Region Metalworkers’ Union, the manufacturer justifies the interruption due to the demand fall. The measure will affect the assembly line and colligated areas’ workers. About 2.7 thousand employees will remain at their homes from June 12 through 23, returning to work on June 26. During this period, about 3 thousand vehicles will not be manufactured.
The unit’s metalworkers discussed the manufacturer’s note on assemblies held on Thursday, 5/31. GM has four thousand employees in the Taubaté plant.
The new halt happens less than two months after collective vacations at the plant, from March 27 through April 11. At the time, the workers declared a ‘state of strike’ against the dismissals the manufacturer was promoting to “adjust the production” Since then, there have been no more cuts, informed the union.
“If there is a production fall, GM must talk with the union to look for options that do not harm the workers. Metalworkers are mobilized and will fight against any measure that could harm rights or cut jobs”, said Valmir Mariano, the union’s president.
