Even when pickups are getting characteristics and behavior increasingly closer to passenger cars, there is still space for those with a real adventurer profile – people who prefer a dirty road over asphalt. Mitsubishi has always bet on this public and keeps on this trail.
The proof is the launch of the 2024 Triton Sport Savana. That’s the fifty generation of the most adventurer version of the L200, the brand’s sales leader produced in Catalão, GO, which will reach the dealers in the next few weeks.
The Savana has been in the market for almost two decades. The 2024 model costs R$ 309.990 – between the versions HPE and HPE-S – and has visual and content novelties.
On the exterior, it has a fully redesigned front end with a new optical set with LED headlights, new step boards, a roof rack, snorkel and a compartment for small objects in the cargo bay. Inside, the seats’ leather upholstery and the 7-inch JBL multimedia system stand out.
Keeping the flashy colors option pallet, like traditional yellow, the Savana has the same 2.4 l 190 cv turbo diesel engine, already known from other versions.
Nevertheless, for the 2024 lineup, it is coupled to a six-speed automatic transmission with shift paddles in the steering wheel. The 4 x 4 drive has off-road modes for diverse situations and terrains.
The adventurer pickup’s fifth generation also carries a digital inclinometer, automatic headlights switch, rain and parking sensors and rearview camera. The air-conditioned has outlets on the roof.
The arrival of the refurbished Savana should help Mitsubishi to recover at least part of the share it lost in 2023 among the pickups. According to Fenabrave, from January through May, the L200 had less than 4.3 thousand units licensed and was the seventh best-selling pickup with a 4.8% share.
It is very different from last year’s scenario when it appeared in fourth place with nearly 5.6 thousand units delivered and 8% of the segment sales – the same position and share kept all over 2022, when 15.8 thousand units reached the streets.
While the L200 sales fell by over 20% from January through May 2023, the large pickups market grew by 25% from 70.3 thousand to 88.4 thousand.
