In debates about vehicle electrification, ethanol always gains evidence in the Brazilian automotive industry. After opening Anfavea’s seminar “Conducting the future of electrification in Brazil” this Wednesday, 6/14, the manufacturers association’s president, Márcio de Lima Leite, revealed ongoing studies to encourage Brazilian consumers to use ethanol.

“It’s fundamental to keep ethanol price competitive when compared to gasoline. We also consider it necessary to promote the conscientization about the importance of ethanol in the decarbonization process and the concession of incentives to encourage its use by the consumer”, said the executive.

He said there are studies about these points, including the possible creation of a program similar to air ticket mileage, giving the consumer bonus points when refueling. Lima Leite said that only 30% of the Brazilians who own fuel-flexible cars opt for the alternative fuel:

“If all our fuel-flex fleet used ethanol, there would be an emission reduction equivalent of eight million electric vehicles in the country”.

Anfavea’s seminary, with the participation of the manufacturers operating in Brazil, happens at the Ulisses Guimarães Convention Center in Brasília. At the event opening, Lima Leite emphasized that previsibility and legal safety are key factors for the industry’s advance in the country, including the automotive segment.

“We are living in the most challenging moment in our history. Electrification imposes challenges and opportunities.

The future is already here – we must accelerate to not lag behind, and in this context, it is important to remember that ethanol and biofuels position us at another level. with advantages regarding other countries”, concluded

Anfavea’s president, adding that the manufacturers and suppliers operating in Brazil have global standards. “What we really must work on is reducing the Brazil cost”.
