The government’s discount program for cars up to R$ 120 thousand did not reflect on the number of cars licensed in Brazil yet. Preliminary data indicate 58,213 units were sold in the first 15 days of June, compared to 76,774 in May – a 24% fall.
Compared to the same period in 2022 (69,852 units sold), the volume fell by nearly 17%. The daily sales average registered the same retraction indexes. According to market sources, the purchases with discounts only began last Monday, 6/12, due to the Corpus Christi holidays.
There is a few days’ interval between the purchase and licensing, so the favorable moment at the beginning of the month will only show in licensing numbers next week.
Another point to consider, according to a Bright Consulting analysis, is that June sales began extremally slow due to the delay in the publication of the measure creating the program. “The first half’s sales reflect this, but should accelerate from now”, said Paulo Cardamone, Bright’s CEO.
According to the executive, many invoices from vehicle sales made before the program were canceled and are being reissued now with reduced values, so licensing is yet to come.
Fiat maintained the market lead in the period but lost share from 22% to 18.8%. General Motors ranked second (16.1%), and Volkswagen ranked third, with 15.4%).
