Volkswagen Caminhões e Ônibus has started its operations as a vehicle manufacturer in Argentina. The company has just assembled its first truck in Córdoba, a VW Delivery 11.180 that will be used to evaluate the manufacturing process, staff training and road tests in the country.

Truck and bus production in Córdoba, where are currently manufactured transmissions for Volkswagen Group vehicles, is the fruit of a deal between VWCO and Volkswagen Argentina signed last December, which foresees the manufacture of five models of the brand beginning next year. VWCO has already sold its products in the country for 25 years.

The new operation is the fourth of the company out of Brazil, after Mexico, South Africa and the Philippines. VWCO did not release the amount invested in the project that will assemble CKDs sent from Brazil and could initially produce up to 1.2 thousand early units and reach 3 thousand a year in 2025.

“Our internationalization process aims to prospect and consolidate our presence in new markets, as well as leading sales in the countries where we already operate”, said Roberto Cortes, Volkswagen Caminhões e Ônibus’ president and CEO.

The Córdoba’s assembly line has 15 thousand square meters. There will be assembled the VW Delivery 9.170 and 11.180, the Constellation 17.280 trailer and chassis-cabin versions and the Volksbus 15.190 OD bus chassis.

These products are already present in Argentina, imported from Brazil and are assisted by 12 dealerships and 17 sales points.
