Fenabrave blames high interest and Euro 6 new products prices

New truck sales in the year’s first half reached 50.3 thousand units, 12.1% less than in the same period one year ago when licensing reached 50.3 thousand units. The figures were released by Fenabrave on Tuesday, 7/4.
In the first half of last year, the automotive sector faced the most acute phase of the lack of components, which took to product scarcity. According to the federation that represents the Brazilian dealers, the current tension is due to the economy instead of logistics.
For Fenabrave’s president, Andreta Jr., the segment is harmed by high interests and default, making it difficult to finance new products fitting Proconve P8’s norms (equivalent to Euro 6), with prices from 15% to 20% higher.
“The market has been cautious about purchasing new vehicles due to the price of vehicles with the new technology”, he said in a note.
Last month, truck sales fell by 2.17% from May (7.9 thousand to 7.7 thousand units). Compared to June 2021, when 10.8 thousand trucks were sold, the market shrank by almost 29%.
Although the truck segment has benefitted from the government tax incentive program, the measure did not improve sales.
According to Andreta Jr., the transporter, especially the autonomous, is waiting for the Renovar program (fleet renovation), which is still being negotiated between the government and sector organizations.
