Volkswagen do Brasil’s president, Ciro Possobom, see as positive the Chinese brands GWM and BYD’s decision to invest in production in Brazil. “It will surely help to develop a local chain of suppliers for electric vehicles”, he said.
Possobom commented on the matter after a press conference on Monday, 7/3, with the brand’s global CEO, Thomas Schäfer, and South America’s president, Alexander Seitz. On the occasion, journalists insisted on electric vehicles and how Brazil is situated about them.
The world’s CEO made clear that he does not see a future other than the battery car, but admitted that transitory solutions, such as the Brazilian hybrid, can be adopted in the electrification process.
Possobom thinks the importation of electric vehicles by the brands operating in Brazil is a way to disseminate the product in the Brazilian market to think about production in the future.
Volkswagen had already announced the sale of the ID.4 in Brazil and, at its party commemorating 70 years in Brazil, on Monday night, announced the importation of the ID.Buzz, a contemporary electric version of the Kombi (VW Bus).
“It’s a medium and long-term planning. We will first bring products from abroad to evolve later into the manufacturing project and the development of a local supply chain”, said VW Brasil’s president, who remembered that it is necessary to create a schedule for electric vehicles import taxes, which is now zero.
