After the first six months of 2023, Brazilian motorcycle production strictly follows Abraciclo’s forecasts. On this Monday, 7/10, the association that represents ten manufacturers with plants in Manaus, AM, issued a new estimate for the year with 1.56 million units, just 100 thousand more than it had forecast in January, 10.4% over 2022.

From January through June, 764.3 thousand motorcycles left the assembly lines in Brazil, 13.9% more than in last year’s first half. It’s the best semestral result since 2014, even with the 95.3 thousand units produced in June, the weaker monthly performance in the year, 6.3% below the same month in 2022.

If the total previewed for 2023’s 12 months is confirmed, Brazilian production should achieve the best result in nine years, over the 1.52 million units manufactured in 2014.

Marcos Bento, Abraciclo’s president, sees the macroeconomic scenario as favorable for short-term sales growth. He only complains about the interest rate. “Nonetheless, the dollar fall, employment growth, controlled inflation and the expected GDP raise will press the interest rates down”, he said.

The industry is also pleased by the tax reform approved by the Deputies Chamber. “The text ensures the maintenance of benefits for the industry in Manaus up to 2073”, said Bento. “And, according to what was approved, there will be no impact on products made in Manaus, where the IPI (industrialized products tax) is zero.”

Market

In the first half, 780 thousand motorcycles were licensed, 22.5% more than in the same period in 2022. In June, the registers reached 140.4 thousand, a 16.2% rise over the same month last year with a 6,685 motorcycles daily average.

Abraciclo has also revised the annual retail sales and foreign markets businesses. Licensing should total 1.51 million units, growing 10.9% over last year’s. The new export forecast is to ship 49 thousand motorcycles, 11.5% less than in 2022.

The Street category was the best seller in the first semester with 408.9 thousand units and 52.4% of the market. In second place were trail motorcycles (145.4 thousand and 18.6%), followed by scooters (104.5 thousand and 13.4%).
