Renault Scénic to come back as electric in September

Now an SUV, the model will be the brand's main attraction at the Munich Autoshow

From the vehicle that opened Renault’s production in Brazil 25 years ago, the Scénic’s new generation maintains only the name. That’s what the French manufacturer will show on September 4 at the IAA Mobility 2023, Munich’s auto show.

The German exhibit, Europe’s second larger, was chosen by Renault to stage the launch of the electric Scénic E-Tech. Beyond the drive difference from previous generations, it will no longer be a mono volume: to follow the global trend, it will be one more sport-utility.

Revealed at the ChangeNOW Summit in Paris last May, the Scénic Vision concept car anticipated Renault’s second step in the segment C electric vehicles field, which will continue the brand’s global decarbonization strategy that originated three other full-electric vehicles:  the Mégane E-Tech, ZOE and the electric Twingo.

Renault will unveil the new Scénic’s design details gradually. A fleet of pre-production cars will already be driven on European roads in the next weeks until the world première at the IAA 2023.

Nonetheless, the vehicles assembled at the Douai ElectriCity plant are camouflaged by an exclusive pattern developed by Renault Design, combining lines and logo variations.

Global sales grew 11%

The French manufacturer informed this week that its world sales reached 770.8 thousand units in the first half, growing 11% over the same period last year.

Most sales were in Europe, which bought 21% more than last year and where Renault finished the semester in second place. In France, it was the bestseller brand with 198.9 thousand automobiles and light commercial vehicles.

The manufacturer also celebrates a 17% increase in electrified vehicle sales to 132.5 thousand, with 83 thousand units of the Austral and Arkana hybrids. The electrics added to 48 thousand. The Megane E-Tech overcame 23 thousand units and is the bestseller in its segment in France.

From the 2023 second half, the electric model will gain more world projection. Renault will begin selling it in Turkey and also in Brazil.
