Long-charging time, still one of the main inconveniences of battery electric vehicles, should soon become a surmounted adversity. At least, that is what CATL indicates.
The Chinese company, one of the world’s largest battery suppliers, with customers as Tesla and partnerships with Ford, launched this Wednesday, 8/16, a superfast charging LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) battery capable of delivering 400 km of driving range with a 10-minute charge.
Named Shenxing, the new battery will be mass-produced from the end of this year, and the first cars equipped with it should hit Chinese and other markets’ streets already in the first quarter of 2024.
In a press conference, Gao Han, the company’s CTO, said he expects that, with continuous efforts to reduce costs, Shenxing will become a standard for all-electric vehicles.
“Despite superfast charging is currently an option for cutting-edge electric vehicles, we expect to improve technology and reduce costs”, he asserted.
