Government to extend the discount program for commercial vehicles

The vice president and minister of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services, Geraldo Alckmin, confirmed on Tuesday, 8/22, that he will ask to extend the commercial vehicles incentive plan until the end of the resources.

The program offered R$ 1 billion in tax credit – R$ 700 million for trucks and R$ 300 million for buses – reverted in discounts from R$ 33.6 thousand to R$ 99.4 in heavy vehicle purchases. Nevertheless, to obtain the benefit, the buyer must deliver an equivalent model at least 20 years old to be scrapped.

Different from what happened in the automobile and light commercial vehicles market, which used R$ 800 million of tax credits in 45 days, one month before the program’s end, only R$ 270 million were used to buy heavy vehicles.

“We will extend the program until it reaches R$ 1 billion”, confirmed Alckmin in Araçariguama, SP, at the announcement of the sale of 140 Volkswagen trucks to the Vamos Group through the discount program.

Alckmin also revealed studies about a new Finame financing line from the BNDES, linked to the Selic rate. The aim is to improve the transporter’s adherence to the incentive plan. According to Alckmin, the credit line would initially offer R$ 1 billion at an interest rate linked to the Selic. “If the Selic falls, the installments will fall in the same reason”, he said.
