Toyota suspended production in all its 14 plants in Japan this Tuesday, 8/29. The company said in a note that the measure “is due to a failure in the production ordering system that happened yesterday (Monday)”.

“Our operations were halted in some plants from August 29 first shift and in 28 lines in all 14 plants from the night shift”. The manufacturer said the production should resume in 25 lines of 12 units in the first shift this Wednesday, 8/30.

About speculations about possible external action, the manufacturer declared: ‘We understand the system problem was not caused by a cyber attack. Nonetheless, we will keep investigating the cause”.

Due to the failure, the manufacturer was impeded from ordering components from its supplier, many operating just in time to avoid stocking at the plants.

Toyota’s Japanese plants produce about one-third of the brand’s vehicles worldwide. In the first semester, they produce, on average, 13.5 thousand units daily.
