227 thousand units were assembled in August

Brazilian automotive production reached 227 thousand vehicles in August, close to the best month of the year (May, 227.9 thousand) and 24% more than in July. There were no plant halts in the month, which were happening due to declining demand or lack of components.
The production performance was celebrated by Anfavea’s president, who attributes the figures to a possible preparation for the second semester, usually the hottest period for the sector.
The higher production increased inventories in the plants and dealers from 198.8 thousand to 244.7 thousand vehicles, the equivalent of 35 days of production. A 20% growth from July to August.
In the first eight months, 1.542 million units left the assembly lines. Last year, the number was 1.549 million. “It’s just a 0.4% fall, so we can speak on stability”, said Anfavea’s president.
Lima Leite considered the internal market 7.9% fall from 225 thousand to 207.7 thousand as natural due to the end of the government incentive package that benefitted the market in July.
“It was the second best month in licensing”, said the executive, remembering that now it is needed to wait for September figures to evaluate what should come ahead.
Another August positive point was the workforce growth from 99.6 thousand to 100.1 thousand, a 0.5% high with 500 hirings. Nevertheless, in the year, the manufacturers’ employment levels fell by 3.3%.
