SUVs dominate retail, and hatches prevail in the wholesale market

Honda HR-V was August's common-consumer predilect, as Hyundai HB20 led factory direct sales

With retail sales accounting for 56% of the automobile market in August, this segment’s sales ranking is completely different than wholesale. While the common consumer prefers SUVs, hatches prevail in direct sales.
Half of the ten retail market most purchased models are SUVs, with the Honda HR-V leading the market last month.

Hyundai Creta is the third on the list, and the Chevrolet Tracker and Fiat Fastback are fifth and seventh. VW T-Cross is the tenth among the common consumers’ preferred models.

Wholesales’ scenario is completely different. Four of the five leading models are hatches, with the Hyundai HB20 first, followed by the Fiat Mobi, VW Polo and Chevrolet Onix. The exception is the Onix Plus sedan, in fifth place. Wholesales Top 10 ranking also include the Jeep Renegade, Fiat Cronos and Argo, Tracker and Peugeot 208.

Considering direct and retail sales, August’s leader was the Onix, followed by the Polo, HB20, Onix Plus, Fiat Mobi, Tracker, Argo, T-Cross and Jeep Compass. By model, wholesales has a higher weight in sales by model in the country.

The HR-V SUV is currently Honda’s bestseller model, overcoming the new City Hatch and Sedan, which do not figure in any Top 10 sellers ranking in the country.
