The light vehicle market’s daily average sales increased in September thanks to the growth of direct purchases, especially by great fleet operators, including rental companies.
According to Fenabrave, the organization that represents the dealers of all brands in the country, direct sales share in the month was 54.84%, with 102,788 units negotiated, versus 84,455 retail sales.
In the first bimester, sales made directly by manufacturers accounted for 44% of the market, and until September, the largest index, 49.6%, happened in April. In June, when the government-sponsored incentive plan offered discounts only for personal customers, the share was 43.5%, the year’s lowest.
The light vehicle market achieved 187,433 deliveries in September, 4.8% less than in August (196,879). Direct sales grew 10.7%, and retail businesses fell 19%.
In the year, direct sales accounted for 48% of light vehicle deliveries with 737,780 units sold to fleet operators, taxi drivers, agriculture producers and disabled persons. From January through September 2022, the index was similar, 47.47%.
Direct sales grew 11.4% in 2023, slightly more than the 10% increase of the light vehicle market, which reached 1.53 million units, versus 1.39 million last year.
The VW Polo led automobile direct sales in September with 6,755 units. It was followed by the Hyundai HB20 (5,159) and Chevrolet Onix Plus (4,821). The three cars are also on the top of the wholesales ranking year-to-date, where the Korean brand hatch occupies the third place.
Among light commercial vehicles, the Fiat Strada is the first with more than 10.2 thousand wholesale deliveries, trailed by VW Saveiro with 4,808 registers and Fiat Toro (2.722).
The SUVs led September retail sales. The Honda HR-V was the leader (4.2 thousand units), followed by Hyundai Creta (3.6 thousand) and Chevrolet Tracker (3.4 thousand).
Fiat detains the highest direct sales share (27.2%), followed by Volkswagen (17.7%), GM (15.9%) and Jeep (8.5%).
