Stellantis’s cheapest five-passenger electric car in the world, presented in Europe this Tuesday, 10/17, is well-known by Brazilians.
The new Citroën ë-C3 is the same C3 produced since last year in Porto Real, RJ, with small aesthetical differences, a new interior, and a fully electric drivetrain. It will reach the European market in next year’s second quarter.
Its mission is to become Citroën’s electric entry car – not considering the Ami, a two-place limited-range “no-car” – able to face the many Chinese competitors arriving in the Old Continent and even the Dacia Spring, known in Brazil as Renault Kwid e-Tech.
The price revealed by the French brand says all: the electric will cost from € 23.3 thousand, about R$ 124 thousand, well below the average € 30 thousand price of European urban electric models.
Nonetheless, Citroën says an even cheaper version, costing € 20 thousand, could be launched in 2025 with a reduced range of about 200 km.
The ë-C3 will initially use an LFP (lithium phosphate iron) 44 kWh battery providing 320 km autonomy. It will be assembled in Trnava, Slovakia, and will be the first to boast Citroën’s new logo, which redeems the brand’s origins.
To reduce costs, Stellantis decided to use the Smart Car Platform, originally intended to be used only in vehicles made in India and Latin America, and a simplified interior.
“It has comfort and electric attributes at the best level”, asserted Thierry Koskas, Citroën brand’s CEO. “This is Citroën’s most important launch in at least ten years”, he said.
