JAC reduces the price of the electric E-JS1 once more

JAC’s electric enter car is more affordable. Offered in a single version, the compact E-JS1 now costs R$ 126,900.00. The only option items available for the model are the metallic paint (R$ 2,000.00) and light-alloy wheels (R$ 1,600.00).

JAC Motors Brasil informs the R$ 9 thousand price reduction was enabled “after a negotiation with the company’s headquarters, which saw the possibility to expand the model sales in Brazil”.

The E-JS1 is the brand’s bestseller car. From January through September, it totaled 349 deliveries, 60% of the 579 automobiles and light commercial vehicles sold by JAC in the country. The second bestselling model, the E-JS4 compact SUV, sold much less, 87 units.

In 2022, the E-JS1 also led JAC’s sales with 611 units, half of the 1,211 vehicles of the whole lineup, exclusively electric.

“Despite the sales of 100% electric models in Brazil is still small, under 1%, the segment growth – nearly 45% from January through September – called the attention of JAC Motors in China”, said Sergio Habib, president of the SHC Group and JAC Motors Brasil.

“We explained to them that the impact of a 5% to 7% price change would result in a 20% to 30% increase in the E-JS1 sales. And the headquarters agreed”.

This is the third time the price of JAC’s entry car has been lowered this year. Until July – when direct competitors with the same price level from the Chinese GWM and BYD began to arrive – the model cost R$ 146 thousand. Afterward, the price fell to R$ 140 thousand, and, until Tuesday, 10/17, it was R$ 136 thousand.

Kia Niro gets a version with a more aggressive price

This strategy to fight the competition advance is not exclusive to JAC. Over the last two months, almost every week, there were announcements of lower prices for entry electric cars from BYD and GWM and even in higher segments or hybrids.

More affordable versions have also been created. This Thursday, 10/19, Kia announced the start of sales of the new EX configuration of the 2024 Niro, a hybrid with a 1.6 l gasoline engine. With 141 cv combined power, according to the brand it can reach up to 19.8 km/l in the city.

The new EX suggested price is R$ 199,990.00, about R$ 5 thousand less than the 2023 version. For the other available version, the SX Prestige, Kia charges much more: R$ 244 thousand. But it is already offering a R$ 14 thousand bonus, reducing the price to R$ 230 thousand – a value that seems too high for the segment.
