The Rampage has already shown and confirmed its market potential in its first full month at the dealerships. Ram’s only national model sold 2,542 units in October and was the seventh best-seller pickup in the country.
Made in Goiana, PE, the new pickup launched at the end of June but recently arrived at the dealer net did not achieve fifth place for very little. Ford Ranger was sixth with 2.591 units, and the Chevrolet Montana, in fifth place, had 2,924 deliveries.
As Ram’s most affordable model, the Rampage was a natural candidate for the brand’s best seller. It confirmed this role yet in the first month with close to 75% of the brand’s sales.
In the first nine months of 2023, Ram’s monthly average sales were slightly more than 800 units. In October, they jumped to almost 3.1 thousand and overcame Ford (3.0 thousand) for the first time.
It is already the seventh best-seller pickup in 2023, ahead of Mitsubishi and its L200 (9.7 thousand) and pulverized the Nissan Frontier (6 thousand).
In the year, Ram sold 10.4 thousand pickups, 2.8% of the light commercial vehicle market segment, which also includes vans.
It is exactly three times the number it achieved in the first ten months of 2022, when it sold 3.3 thousand units, with a 1% share.
What will happen to Montana?
Montana’s slight 382 units advantage in October confirms the Chevrolet model, in the stores for just six months, must worry much more about the Rampage than the Fiat Toro, its natural competitor for its size, consumer profile and price.
Since it arrived at the stores effectively, the new Montana added 25.3 thousand units sold, less than 2.5 thousand a month. Its best result was in March, when it sold close to four thousand units.
Year-to-date, it is behind the Strada, the segment’s and total market’s absolute leader with 98.5 deliveries, the Toro (42.2 thousand), the veteran Volkswagen Saveiro (38.2 thousand and the Toyota Hilux (39.1 thousand).
