Marcopolo has already produced more than last year’s total volume in its South African plant. Until September, 269 buses left the assembly line, overcoming the 266 made in 12 months in 2022. The production in the first nine months this year was 65% higher.
The Brazilian multinational company headquartered in Caxias do Sul, RS, says the growing production follows the increasing demand for the brand’s products, whose share jumped from 39% to 47.3% in one year.
Renan Pesente, general manager of Marcopolo’s South African operation, is excited about the brand’s growth in the region:
“As happened in Brazil and other international markets, the main reason is the post-Covid road transportation recovery and the air tickets price increase that has caused people to choose the bus and the operators to intensify fleet renovation with most modern and advanced models”.
Among the main South African customers, the bus manufacturer highlights Intercity Express and Intercape, two local operators. For Intercape, 26 units were delivered: 16 Paradiso New G7 1800 Double Decker and 10 Paradiso New G7 1200. The Intercity Express added to its fleet ten Paradiso New G7 1200.
