Sales balance released by Acea, Europe’s manufacturers’ association, shows the consumer began the year willing to buy. In February, deliveries in the European Union, United Kingdom and EFTA countries reached 902.7 thousand cars, 12.2% more than in the same period last year.

The first bimester registered 1.81 million automobiles sold, an 11.5% increase over one year ago when 1.62 million units were commercialized.

According to Acea, the period’s performance can be considered vigorous, with a two-digit high in the first two months.

Nonetheless, the association ponders that the growth, besides a higher demand, is also due to a low reference basis. It’s worth remembering the automotive industry faced its worst moment of the semiconductors shortage crisis during the first semester of 2022.

The Volkswagen group led sales in Europe in the first bimester with a 26% share and 473.3 cars sold, an 18% growth.

Stellantis, the runner-up, sold 323.8 thousand units and secured 18% of the market, a slight 1% increase. Third in the ranking, the Renault Group grew by 26% selling 186.1 thousand automobiles, 10% of the market sales.
