Márcio de Lima Leite, Anfavea’s president, told that average sales per working day in the first week of May were restricted to 7.5 thousand units, 7.5% less than in the same period in April, when it reached 8.1 thousand.
April was the best month in daily sales this year, with 8.9 thousand units. The volume was 8.7 thousand in March, 7.2 thousand in February and 6.5 thousand in January.
160.7 thousand vehicles were delivered in April, 19.2% under March and 9.2% more than last year. According to the manufacturers’ association’s president, 47 thousand were purchased by rentals. In the first four months, sales totaled 633 thousand vehicles, a 14% increase over 2022. Rental companies’ purchases grew from 120 thousand to 150 thousand units.
“Business with large fleet owners are welcome, but it is important for the sector to have a strong retail performance”, commented Leite.
According to him, April’s fall compared to March was already expected due to the month’s holidays: “May should be an important thermometer, as a full month. It has generally been a relevant month, but we can’t ignore the first week’s deceleration.
Due to the plants’ halts, the dealers’ average stock was kept in 38 days. “If not for the adjustment measures, the manufacturers’ and dealers’ stocks would probably be higher”, said Anfavea’s president.
At the beginning of last year, at the peak of the semiconductors crisis, this volume fell to just 15 days, taking to waiting lines for some models, especially the most affordable and demanded. This year, on the contrary, the market is marked by actions such as discounts and interest-free financing, among others.
