Mercedes-Benz announced it will outsource the activities of its unit in Campinas, SP, where it has a replacement parts distribution center, the post-sales area and produces remanufactured components. The measures should affect about 500 workers.
According to the Campinas and Region Metalworkers Union, the company communicated the end of activities at the unit on June 22 and the process chronogram, which would happen from December 2023 and December 2024.
The changes will start with the parts distribution center, which will be operated by a company from Itupeva, SP. This transition will end in March 2024. Post-sales and management activities will be transferred to São Bernardo do Campo, SP, over next year’s first half. The remanufacture operation will be outsourced up to the end of 2024.
According to the union, the workers did not accept the dismissal package proposals and are mobilized to press the company to withdraw the decision and preserve the jobs. The employees meet on Monday, 6/26, and Tuesday, 27.
Mercedes-Benz said in a note that it is committed to searching for solutions to minimize the impacts of the decision on the employees and is negotiating with the local union “to create alternatives and satisfactory conditions that could take us to the best possible result for all parts”.
Mercedes-Benz also informed that the measures should not harm bus and truck customers’ assistance.
A similar movement happened in September last year when the manufacturer decided to outsource areas of its plant in São Bernardo do Campo, SP. The agreement approved at the time secured relocation and requalification of the areas involved, the opening of a VDP and a 12-salary indemnity plus a variable amount according to the service time at the company.
