Renault do Brasil announced a partnership to use a 50 MW solar farm in the Castilho Photovoltaic Park in São Paulo as part of its efforts to become a solar energy auto producer. It is the first automotive manufacturer in the country to use this system as the main source to supply its operational energy demand.
“This project enables Renault do Brasil to keep using clean energy in the production process and become self-sufficient in generation contributing to the Brazilian energy system sustainably”, explained Ricardo Gondo, the company’s president.
So far, the manufacturer used hydraulic-generated clean energy. From now on, it will use one of the five solar farms of Castilho’s Photovoltaic Complex, the largest in São Paulo state with 270 MW total capacity.
The 50 MW contracted will supply 85% of the electric energy used at Renault’s plants and management center. The aim is to reach 100% in December.
“This project emphasizes Comerc’s expertise in supplying complex and large demands with sustainable energy solutions, as Renault’s”, said Pedro Fiuza, Centralized Generation vice president of Comerc Energia, which operates the energy plant.
“This way, we ensure the manufacturer will make a smooth and assertive transition from a source already 100% clean, hydraulic, to another clean and incentivized, photovoltaic”.
