It may be too soon to bet, but the first numbers released by BYD position the just-presented Dolphin EV as a serious candidate to be Brazil’s electric car bestseller in 2023.
The Chinese manufacturer informed this Thursday, 7/27 that it has already sold three thousand units of the compact. It happened in just one month, with deliveries previewed only for the end of August.
With this volume, the Dolphin has practically equaled all internal market’s electric car sales of the first semester. According to Anfavea, from January through June, slightly less than 3.8 thousand full-electric vehicles were sold in the country.
If BYD figures are confirmed, the Dolphin should be the country’s best-selling battery-driven car, at least until September.
Nonetheless, to finish the year in this position, it will depend on the acceptance and sales strategy of direct competitors, especially the Ora 03.
GWM’s model sales would start at the end of August with a price from R$ 150 thousand to R$ 200 thousand, according to the Chinese manufacturer, which will begin to produce in Brazil in the first half of 2024.
Considering the size, commercial goals and, especially, brand image creation, the Ora would surely have a price close to Dolphin’s or even the Renault Kwid E-Tech and Jac E-JS1, which cost from R$ 140 thousand to R$ 150 thousand and are the cheaper battery-electric options in the market.
The dealer net consolidation yet in 2023 will be important for Dolphin sales. BYD assures having 66 units already designated and expects to reach one hundred by the end of the year.
Currently, only 24 dealers are already open in large and medium cities. Five are in the state of São Paulo, and the others in Espírito Santo, Paraná, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, Distrito Federal, Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, Ceará, Goiás, Pernambuco, Amazonas, Mato Grosso, Bahia and Maranhão.
