The Volkswagen Polo finished July leading light vehicle sales in Brazil for the second consecutive month and with impressive 16.471 units delivered. This is the highest volume achieved by a Brazilian car since December 2020, when the Chevrolet Onix sold 16,566 units. July also was the best month for the automotive sector in 31 months.

The Hyundai HB20 was second among the Top 10 model ranking with 12.127 registers, followed by the Fiat Strada with 10,387 units. Year-to-date, the Italian brand’s pickup keeps the lead with more than 60.9 thousand registers in the year. In the same period, the Polo reached 53.7 thousand sales.

Polo sales have been accelerating since the launch of the Track version at the beginning of the year. It’s Volkswagen’s most affordable model and aims to gain the usual customers of the just-retired Gol. In June, the VW hatch had achieved a record 9.9 thousand units sold in the month and 37.2 thousand in the year.

In July, its sales grew incredible 69%, taking Volkswagen to cancel the temporary lay-off it had scheduled beginning this month at the Taubaté plant, where the Polo is produced. According to VW’s dealers, a great part of the positive results in July is due to sales to large rental companies by the manufacturer.

The Chevrolet Onix fell to fourth place in July’s ranking, following General Motors’ bad results in the month. 10,261 units of the Chevrolet hatch were sold in the month. The Top 10 also included the Fiat Mobi (10,261 units), VW T-Cross (8,554), Fiat Argo (7,159), Renault Kwid (6,603), VW Nivus (6,491) and Onix Plus (6,413).
