The ABC Metalworkers Union informed this Thursday, 11/9, that Volkswagen will produce its first national electrified models at the São Bernardo plant, in São Paulo.
The union firmed a deal with the manufacturer, approved in an assembly, which assures the investment in a new platform at the Anchieta plant to produce two hybrid cars from 2027.
It was also defined the creation of 111 new engineering and product development jobs.
The negotiation took six weeks and ended with the extension for more five years of the deal in effect at the company until 2028. The São Bernardo unit has 8.2 thousand workers, five thousand on the shop floor.
“This agreement ensures longevity for the Anchieta plant, repositions our region towards reindustrialization and generates growth opportunities for the ABC parts manufacturers”, said Wellington Messias Damasceno, the union’s administrative director and representative of the plant workers in São Bernardo do Campo.
In his opinion, the agreement is extremely important for Volkswagen workers in the ABC and countrywide: “The extension of the deal until 2028 assures not only investments, economical and social items and the hire of new workers, but the future of this plant and job assurance for its workers”.
The negotiation included economic items such as date base, food tickets, profit share program and the inclusion of social items for the next years. Changes in the manufacturer’s Voluntary Dismissal Program and the permanent hiring of workers in the unit were also agreed upon.
